Dance & Music

Dance and music has always been a way of expressing feelings and emotions. In the ancient years, it was also a way to communicate with the gods. Cretan people use their music and dances to express their pride, the joys of life, happiness and sadness, love and death.

The musical instruments that are used in Cretan music are usually made by the self-taught musicians that play them.

Cretan dances are the evolution of many ancient dances like Pyrichios, a war Dorian dance and the dance of the crane bird. Cretan traditional music can still be heard in social events like wedding and engagement parties and christenings.
