Bali
Bali is a coastal village situated 37klm east of Rethymno. It is the second main resort on the north coast of the prefecture after the town of Rethymno. Very picturesque, with wonderful bays and part of it built on the ancient site of Astali. Bali combines the reality of a small place with many changes of scenery and atmosphere.
There are several beaches and a small harbour with waterside cluster of cafes and tavernas. It used to be a small fishing hamlet but over the years has grown into a charming tourist village, with pretty white houses and lots of flowers around the hillsides.
From Bali you have the chance to visit the Melidoni cave and the traditional village of Margarites with the old pottery workshops. It is also worth visiting the Monastery of Saint John. A very attractive and romantic place that combines sea and mountain.
