Makri Gialos

Makri Gialos

Makri Gialos means "long beach" and indeed the beach here is long and sandy with crystal clear waters. The village of Makri Gialos lies east of Ierapetra and 38km south of Sitia with easy access to both of them.

This place is not spoilt from mass tourism yet and its visitors return year after year. It is a traditional fishing village with a picturesque old harbour and tavernas that offer fresh fish.

Framed in front of an impressive mountain range the area offers great opportunities to the visitors to explore gorges, monasteries, old churches and abandoned villages hidden in the mountains.
