Vai
An African oasis in Crete! The beach of Vai, lies on a small bay at the easternmost tip of Crete, and it's the largest natural palm tree beach in Europe.
This palm forest is believed to have been created from date seeds the Romans had left behind on their way back from Egypt or by Egyptian soldiers who came to Crete as allies of Itanos during the war against Presos and Ierapetra.
It is a place of unique beauty, with a pristine sandy beach, not too busy for the Cretan beach standards, and crystal clear fairly shallow water.
The area is protected and fenced and camping is forbidden.
