Gorges

Countless gorges and ravines that begin at the mountainous areas of the island and end to the sea can be found in Crete. The most famous and most visited one is the gorge of Samaria, which has become a must do for all visitors. Very interesting though and each one with its own personality are all the other smaller gorges, that are scattered around the island. Agia Irini, Imbros and Aradena are in the district of Chania. Rouvas gorge and Agiofarago are in Heraklion district. Kourtaliotiko gorge can be found in the district of Rethymno and in Lassithi one can visit the gorge of the dead. April, May, September and October are the best months for crossing the gorges. Some useful tips when hiking
