Chora Sfakion

Chora Sfakion is a coastal village on the southwest coast of Crete in the Chania prefecture. It is famous for its independent spirit and it was the centre of resistance against all the island's invaders. There, the locals outnumber tourists.

Shepherds can still be seen in local dress and the whole place looks like it has been forgotten by time.

There is a large beach in one of the village's bays and many other beaches within walking distance. A wonderful selection of long and short hikes start from the village along old shepherds' paths and through the many nearby gorges. The area is also very good for bird watching.
