Agios Nikolaos

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lassithi prefecture, built around a picturesque lake along the western side of Mirabello bay, the biggest bay in Crete.

Agios Nikolaos with its 9500 inhabitants is a major cultural and administrative centre. A town bursting with life and colours.

 

Thanks to the beautiful coast and the cosmopolitan life the town of Agios Nikolaos attracts thousands of visitors every year but without losing any of its tranquility and traditional hospitality.

A walk around the shopping area of the town is always a pleasure, where one can find many tourist shops with excellent articles of Cretan art and woven handicrafts, jewellery shops and international bookstores.

 

A visit to the archaeological museum of Agios Nikolaos is a must as well as a stop at the nearby beaches such as Ammoudara, Almiros and Istron.

 

Boats sail all day long from Agios Nikolaos to Spinalonga and Elounda.
