Sitia

Sitia is a small peaceful town, built in a form of an amphitheatre, on a hill on the western side of the bay of Sitia.

It is located 73klm east of Agios Nikolaos and the town provides a port with ferry connections to Piraeus, Rhodes and other Aegean islands as well as a small airport with flights to Athens, Kassos, Karpathos and Rhodes.

Worth visiting in the town is the archaeological museum with exhibits from local sites, the folklore museum where one can find out about everyday life and traditions of the area. Using Sitia as a starting point several excursions throughout Eastern Crete can be made.

Some of the most important places to visit are the palace of Kato Zakros, Itanos, Toplou monastery, the palm beach of Vai and all the beautiful beaches around the area.
