Argiroupoli

Southwest of Rethymno prefecture, built on a hill, lies the small village of Argiroupoli. A picturesque village which stands where once was the ancient town of Lappa.

An enormous cistern built in 27 BC, is located on the south of the village and is still working, fed from the numerous springs of the area.

This place is so rich in water that supplies the drinking water of Rethymno. The running water from the mountains join in small waterfalls and powerfull streams that flow through the village. The sound of the impetuous water, the greenery and the freshness make this place a real oasis during the summer heat.

Don't miss to visit the ancient necropolis with hundreds of tombs and the place called the Five Virgins, where there is a huge plane tree which is 2000 years old.
